Dilshad Khan born on 4th September, 1983 at Jodhpur in Rajasthan. Belongs to a Sikar Gharana of music who has given several stalwarts to Indian classical music. He is the ninth generation to take up Sarangi. His great grandfather Ustad Azim Khan shaab was a court musician at Sikar Rajasthan. He began his training at the age of 6 in music from his grandfather Ustad Gulab Khan Sahab who was a great sarangi player and vocalist of his time and from his father Ustad Nasir Khan Sahab who is also a great sitar player. Later he has started learning Sarangi from his uncle Padma Bhushan Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab, who is world’s most renowned Sarangi player and Vocalist. Ustad Sultan khan Sahab has given new dimension to Sarangi and he has played the key role in populariseng this ancient classical instrument of India. Dilshad Khan has given his first performance at the age of 10 at All India Radio Youth festival in Jodhpur. He is known today for his excellent command on this difficult instrument, already remarkably imbibed almost his great uncle’s entire repertoire with a similar command and mastery on the Sarangi. Indeed a chip of the old block. He is sharing stage these days with legends like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Trilok Gurtu, Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, ustad rashid khan, Pt. Ajay Chakarborty, Sivamani, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Lious bank, Aabida Parveen, Hariharan, Pankaj Udhas, Talat Aziz,Shankar Mahadevan, Pt. Rajan-Sajan Mishra, Ustad Fazal Qureshi, Nitin Swahney, Babani Kone, Juliet Robertz, Mickey Heart, Taufiq Qureshi and many more. He has played sarangi with Ustad Zakir Hussain in album Global Drum Project which won the prestigious Grammy Award in 2009. Dilshad Khan is also a famous name in bolllywood music industry, he has played for more than 500 bollywood movies. He have played Sarangi in hit films like Devdas, Namaste London, Mohabbatein, Goal, Rockstar, Faltu, Mausam, Guzaarish, Jhoom Bara Bar Jhoom, Kyunki, Red, Tere Naam, Dhobi Ghat just to name few. He have given many performances in all the major music festival and concerts in India like Savai Gandharva in pune, Saptak in Ahmedabad, Shankar lal music festival in Delhi etc.. He has performed in many prestigious venues in world like Royal Albert Hall, London, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Holland, USA, UAE, Muscat, Behrain etc. He is a beacon of the younger generation a wonderful product of talented nurture. He has the promising future in the field of music.
