Office of Multicultural Interests

Office of Multicultural Interests

The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) is a division of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. Its key role is to advise the Minister on the development of State Government policies and programs to achieve the full potential of multiculturalism.

OMI develops strategies that include everyone—culturally diverse communities, the wider community, business and industry groups, government and non-government agencies—to help develop a society that values and maximises the benefits of its cultural diversity. Its strategies assist organisations to develop policies, programs and services that are accessible and responsive to the needs of a diverse community.

OMI provides information, advice, funding, training and support to communities and community organisations to help build strong communities that maintain and share their diverse cultures and participate actively in all aspects of Western Australian life.

The Western Australian government proudly acknowledges and celebrates our cultural diversity as one of our State’s great strengths and actively plans for a future that captures its potential.

Confluence: Festival of India in Australia

Confluence: Festival of India in Australia

The third chapter of “Confluence: A Festival of India in Australia”, to be supported by the High Commission of India in Australia and produced by pioneering arts and entertainment company Teamwork Arts and Australia-based Gandhi Creations, will once again bind India and Australia in a colourful and collaborative tapestry of the arts.

The previous two festival editions, received by diverse audiences with great enthusiasm, were vibrant, eclectic, multi-city artistic and cultural depictions of India in Australia ranging across shows, themes and exhibitions. In 2017, quintessential Australian towns such as Townsville and Bundaberg reacted with great fervour when festival acts took place at their key venues. This year too, the festival will travel to Australian towns and cities bringing in its characteristic excitement.

Confluence 2018 will once again not just bring alive for Australia the essence of India with a varied range of performances which combine the classical and the contemporary in dance, music, theatre, cinema, literature and puppetry, but also strengthen artistic bonds between the two countries.

Jeevan Saath

Jeevan Saath

Based on the increasing life expectancy, currently over 82 years, one needs to think, plan and decide on their future lifestyle of around next 25 years from the age of 55 years.

Social isolation, loneliness, depression and dependency are not uncommon among people as they grow older. This is especially true when their children and grandchildren have moved on with their own lives. In this modern era, all family members need their own space to enjoy their lives.

These common problems surface even more in couples when one partner passes away and the other partner is left on their own.

Jeevan Saath’s goal is to offer a vibrant, independent, socially and physically active life with like-minded people in a secure and self-contained atmosphere.
