Flavours of authentic North Indian Classical Hindustani music, featuring Praashekh Borkar on Sarod & Vick Riazi on Tabla .
Vick Riyazi (Vickneswaran Ramakrishnan or Vicky) as he is lovingly known had started learning tabla at the tender age of 7 under the tutelage of Rattan Singh in Malaysia. After a few years of training he then took further lessons under Didar Singh also from Malaysia. His passion for the instrument then drove him later to pursue the art of tabla as his career.
In 1998, Vicky went to Pune, India to undergo special training in Tabla under the tutelage of Ustad Hanif Mohamed Mirajkar who is the son of the legendary tabla wizard Ustad Mehboob Khan Saheb. During his 4 year stay in India, Vicky excelled in the art and was given good opportunities to play for internationally renouned artists namely, Ustad Usman Khan who is the international Dean for Hindusthani Classical Music for the Temple of Fine Arts international, and also participated in the Temple of Fine Arts International Orchestras which was conducted by Pandit Chandrakant Kapileshwari (vocal). Vicky completed his training in Pune and acquired Tabla Visharad from the institute of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Pune and then went on to Perth where he is currently the tabla teacher for the Temple of Fine Arts, Perth.Vicky has been performing in various fields which includes Kathak, vocal, instrumental and of late has been venturing into the field of Fusion Music and World Music.
His main aim is to carry out the dreams of his spiritual master the late Swami Shantanand Saraswathi Maharaj in the field of Tabla.
Praashekh Borkar, the young talented musician from Pune, along with his younger brother Abhishek features amongst the finest Musicians of the younger generation in India. Praashekh showed profound enthusiasm for this noble art from a very early age. After having toyed with a mini-Sarod since the age of four, he started taking serious lessons from the age of seven from his father and guru Pt.Shekhar Borkar and has been playing the sarod for over 19 years and performing for more than 16 years now.
Praashekh has also performed at the prestigious Pune festival, M.T.D.C. festival, Haridas sangeet sammelan and several more. He was awarded the Dattopant Deshpande trophy at the prestigious Sawai Gandharva festival,Pune by Pt.Shiv Kumar Sharma in the year 2000. All India Gold medalist in Music. India central government scholarship holder for music. Given the title of 'Surmani' in 2006 by Sur-Singar sammelan ,Mumbai. Completed Sangeet Alankaar (MA in music). Worked with AR Rahman for film projects, Shankar Mahadevan on an album and several other movie background scores and albums. Regular performer at All India Radio and National television,India.
Praashekh has composed music for numerous dance ballets and serials in which one of the tracks was selected as background score for 'Kumbh', a film based on Kumbhmela presented for the French film festival. Achieved 1st place in numerous competitions such as Swar Sadhana All india Competition, Kalyani inter college trophy, etc. A recent collaboration on a song 'Naive' with a singer has been nominated for the GIMA, VIMA and India Rock Awards. Has played at grand venues such as the Tilak Smarak auditorium Pune, Shanmukhanda Hall Mumbai, Goa Kala Academy- in India and Raffles Hall, Victoria Theatre, The Esplanade Singapore, Friestadt music centre, Landestheater Linz Austria, Perth Royal Show, MosArts theatre, Northbridge piazza - Australia. He has invented an electric sarod that he has named the Esarod, a combination of the Sarod and an electric guitar that he uses for his fusion performances.
